Yeast or Sweetener?

I thought during a fast we were not supposed to have yeast or sweetener. Nancy
Thanks for your good question Nancy! If you feel it is wrong to eat products with yeast or any form of sweetener, then you should avoid them. In the Jewish tradition, there are times when leaven or yeast is not allowed. So it is not unusual to avoid yeast. When you check the Daniel's Fast/Diet foods to avoid list, there is no mention of leaven or yeast. We are allowed to eat whole grain breads and other products.

Concerning sweeteners, we are to avoid
  • refined sugar
  • high fructose corn syrup
  • chemical sugar substitutes
However, possible allowed sweeteners include molasses, agave, raw honey, stevia, and Maple syrup. http://www.stevia.net/ has more information about stevia, a natural herb. Stevia might be cheaper at Amazon.com. They also have raw honey.
