Carrie's baked potato lunch recipe

This is a great lunch recipe for one or it can be doubled for two.
  • 1 small to medium baked potato
  • 2 Tbl of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 stewed tomato sliced thin
  • 1 tsp diced scallions
  • 1/4 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 3 stems of fresh asparagus
  • 1 tsp cilantro
  • 1 shake of chili powder
  • Spicy Pepper Organic Dressing
  • Sautee everything except the potato until desired consistency.
  • Pour sauteed mixture over open potato.
  • Add dressing if desired.
Thanks for sharing your recipe Carrie! Remember not to get your olive oil too hot! It destroys the nutrients and burns easily.

Avoiding tea, salt and raw sugar

Greeting in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am very suprised to see that a few of the recipes on your site have ingredidients that are not in complient with the daniel fast ie. The Daniel Fast did not have any types of sugar. No not even raw sugar. and I was also suprised to see salt and seasoning salt? A fast is not supposed to be pleasurable. It is to afflict our flesh and soul. Last but not least yes teas are herbs but they have caffeine in them and should not be used to replace another flesh driven habit. (coffee and sodas) I pray that the info benefits someone and can be passed on to others who truly desire to fast the way the scripture says to.

May God Bless You All
Thank you for sharing you opinion Cheryl. I'm sure there are many who feel the same as you do. Obviously, I don't agree with your interpretation of Daniel chapter one concerning the  reason for Daniel's Fast/Diet or the foods Daniel allowed and avoided.

However, Cheryl, we affirm and encourage your personal application of the Daniel Fast/Diet. You have the freedom to apply Daniel's Fast according to the grace God gives you through the leading of His Holy Spirit. We also affirm the authority of individuals, groups or churches to do the Daniel Diet/Fast according to their own guidelines. If you are a member of a group or church that requires no salt or raw sugar, then we encourage you to submit to that restriction.

Concerning tea, we encourage only drinking teas without caffeine, in keeping with Elmer Towns' version of the Daniel Fast/Diet in his book Fasting For Spiritual Breakthrough.

Yeast or Sweetener?

I thought during a fast we were not supposed to have yeast or sweetener. Nancy
Thanks for your good question Nancy! If you feel it is wrong to eat products with yeast or any form of sweetener, then you should avoid them. In the Jewish tradition, there are times when leaven or yeast is not allowed. So it is not unusual to avoid yeast. When you check the Daniel's Fast/Diet foods to avoid list, there is no mention of leaven or yeast. We are allowed to eat whole grain breads and other products.

Concerning sweeteners, we are to avoid
  • refined sugar
  • high fructose corn syrup
  • chemical sugar substitutes
However, possible allowed sweeteners include molasses, agave, raw honey, stevia, and Maple syrup. has more information about stevia, a natural herb. Stevia might be cheaper at They also have raw honey.

Carole's Daniel Fast Peanut Butter

  • 1 cup unsalted peanuts
  • 5 Pitted Dates
  • Organic unsweetened Soy Milk
Blend in a processor or Magic Bullet, serve on Low Sodium Ezekiel bread. For an extra treat make a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Makes several servings. Store in fridge.

Thanks for your recipe Carole. Some folks allow soy milk. We avoid it, because it isn't a whole grain. You can probably make it without the soy milk.

We make our own peanut butter with our food processor, but have found we need about a cup of natural peanut butter to get the process started.

Check out my favorite peanut butter mix!
