Daniel Fast for Spiritual Breakthrough

Just found some good news at Amazon.com. The new book Daniel Fast for Spiritual Breakthrough by Elmer Towns is available for pre-order. He is the creator of the modern Daniel Fast Diet.

Product Description from Amazon:
"Elmer Towns’ Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough has become must reading as this powerful spiritual discipline of fasting has seen a revival among followers of Christ. Now Towns digs deeper into one of the most popular forms of fasting today, the Daniel Fast. With an emphasis on a healthy, simple diet, The Daniel Fast is named after the prophet Daniel who participated in a partial fast for spiritual purposes.

Daniel was taken captive into Babylon when he was 16 years old. The Babylonian king wanted the young prophet to help him administer his rule over the captive Jews—and he wanted to “Babylon-ize” Daniel, to make the young man of God more like him. The first step the king took in his campaign was to provide a sumptuous feast to tempt Daniel— food fit for a king—basically fattening comfort foods. In response, the prophet refrained from the king's table, choosing instead to eat only vegetables and to drink only water. He honored God over the king."

Neither did I anoint myself

Lisa asks, "What does it mean when it states "neither did I annoint myself at all?"
First, let us clarify that the Daniel Fast Diet at our website is about Daniel's Fast in Daniel chapter 1.

The 21 day fast in Daniel 10 is not exactly the same as the 10 day fast in Daniel 1.

I found the answer to your question using the free download e-Sword Bible program. We studied the various free e-Sword commentaries.
Dan 10:3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
The following quote is from Albert Barnes' Notes on the Bible. If you cannot download the free Bible and commentaries at e-Sword.net, You can purchase a CD of Commentaries at Amazon.com.
I ate no pleasant bread - Margin, “bread of desires.” So the Hebrew. The meaning is, that he abstained from ordinary food, and partook of that only which was coarse and disagreeable.
Neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth - That is, he lived on bread or vegetables. It is not to be inferred from this that Daniel ordinarily made use of wine, for it would seem from Dan. 1: that that was not his custom. What would appear from this passage would be, that he practiced on this occasion the most rigid abstinence.

Neither did I anoint myself - The use of unguents was common in the East (see the notes at Mat_6:17), and Daniel here says that he abstained during these three weeks from what he ordinarily observed as promoting his personal comfort. He gave himself up to a course of life which would be expressive of deep grief. Nature prompts to this when the mind is overwhelmed with sorrow. Not only do we become indifferent to our food, but it requires an effort not to be indifferent to our dress, and to our personal appearance.

Help from God

Mrs. M asked, "In doing this fast are there a certain amount of things that i can ask for help for from God."
There is no limit. However, we find it is best to have a clear primary focus for your prayers. It is helpful to have a prayer journal, where you keep track of your requests and God's answers to prayer. Prayer Journals at Amazon.com

Susie's advice and broccoli recipe

Broccoli, Calabrese cultivar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broccoli
Broccoli, Calabrese cultivar
First, allow your hunger to be your reminder to bring your prayers/petitions before His throne. Then, afterwards eat the foods listed.

One favorite dish is to use: 2-3 T. Olive Oil,to med. high heat; Add chopped Broccoli florets, chopped Red Onion, 2 Cloves Garlic, several Carrots sliced thinly, and a little Ginger. Stir constantly, then use Soy Sauce to taste. Enjoy! Susie
Thanks Susie, for your good advice. Sounds tasty! Many avoid soy sauce, because it is fermented. You can replace soy sauce with lemon juice and salt.
