Fruit image via Wikipedia
A coworker came to work and announced that her church was going on a 21 day fast and it would consist of Fruit and Veggies and she challenged us to participate. I thought she must be losing her mind to think that I could survive for 21 days eating only fruit and veggies. Nevertheless, I did it. At first, my food tasted really bland because I wasn't using any seasonings and I wasn't creative with my menu. After we compared our menu's, they laughed at me and said I could use seasonings for my food and they offered some suggestions. I didn't want to lose cool points with the Lord and be less anointed if I broke any rules. Well, this turned out to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I've lost 30lbs, my blood pressure and cholesterol is normal and I've maintained for 2yrs! Ernice
Thank you for sharing your encouraging testimony!

Is Daniel Fast a Diet?

Weightloss pyramid.
Weight loss pyramid via Wikipedia
Listen, the Daniel fast is not a diet. No fast is a diet. Careful... Joy
Thank you Joy, you raise an important question.

We use the term "diet" in the general sense meaning "the food you decide to eat." We never promote it as a weight loss diet, like the cabbage diet. In Daniel 1:15, Daniel and his friends were "fatter in flesh" after only ten days! :-)

Many more people write us to say it is not a fast, because you are allowed to eat food. They don't understand that there are partial fasts and total fasts. So we say Daniel Diet Fast to help these people understand that this is a partial fast.

However, most people do lose weight on the Daniel Fast Diet, because they are avoiding the junk foods that made them fat. If you remove only white sugar and high fructose corn syrup from your diet, you will consume hundreds fewer calories per day.

Every 100 calories you eat require one mile to walk off. An average soda is 180 calories. That means after a 12 oz. soda you need to walk an extra 1.8 miles. Very few people do, so they store the fat on their bodies.

We promote the Daniel Fast Diet as a partial fast for spiritual breakthrough. One blessing or spiritual breakthrough for many is self control. It results in weight loss, because of their rejection of junk foods on a permanent basis.

How do I start?

I have been wanting, as a fairly new Christian, to live a life of fasting and prayer, and now, I really feel like the LORD is pulling me in that direction. I am scared that I can't do it because of my relationship with food. I have often, in the past, tried fasting to "make God do something", and realized that is not the way to get God to move-FAITH IS, only to fall on my face at 3:00pm.

I have been home alone with a child (4 years old) most of his life, as my husband was in Bible College, and then deployed for a little over 2 years. My husband now gets back on 6/17/2008 and I want to get part of this done before he gets home. How do I start? My mind is boggled thinking about it. Whatever helps and hints will not be taken for granted. Thanks, Sandra
Since you are concerned about your ability to follow through with the Daniel Fast Diet, I'd advise you to do a short Daniel fast the first time. Remember, Daniel's first fast was only for ten days (Daniel 1:12). The hardest days for most people are the first 14, because of withdrawals from sugar and caffeine. So you might try doing the fast for a few days the first time, then a week the second time, then two weeks the third time, etc. That will encourage you and show that it is possible. It helps to think about all the good things you can eat and stock your pantry with them before your fast starts. Remember you can eat the allowed foods at any time. You won't be going without food! The Daniel Fast Diet is a partial fast.

Why Avoid Fried Foods?

I am just curious as to why you can't have fried foods... especially if you fry them in olive oil or vegetable oil.
Dianna
Hi Dianna, thanks for your question. You can eat some fried foods. Elmer Towns is the author of the Fasting For Spiritual Breakthrough Daniel Fast Diet. He clearly states that we should avoid "margarine, shortening, animal fat, high fat products." So we are allowed to fry foods with a little oil, but we should avoid deep fat frying, which is definitely too much oil.

We prefer extra virgin olive oil and Colza. Canola and other healthy non-animal fats are OK in moderation. Use as little oil as possible. French fries have too much oil. Spray some Pam or Colza oil on your fries and bake them. We use olive oil in the place of butter. Add a little salt if you like salted butter. Don't use olive oil for frying, it cannot handle the heat.

Recipes for Desserts?

Hi, Do you have any recipes for desserts? My children are having a hard time giving up sweets. Thanks so much. Also a prayer request: My daughter has Osteogenesis Imperfecta. (brittle bone disease) Please pray for God's healing.
Michelle
Thanks for taking the time to write Michelle. One yummy dessert is smoothies. Some folks allow brown sugar and raw honey. Stevia is a good low calorie natural sweetener. You can buy Stevia, raw honey and raw sugar at Amazon.com.

Click here to search for Vegan dessert recipes. Avoid the recipes that call for items from the Daniel Fast Foods to avoid list.

Let's pray: Heavenly Father we are grateful that You know our bodies inside and out. We fast because we want to honor You with our bodies. We boldly trust You to heal Michelle's daughter. Make her bones strong and healthy. We give You all the glory! In Jesus Name!

Can you eat anytime of the day?

Can you eat the foods required anytime of the day or is the fasting period from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. each day?
Kim
Hi Kim. Good to hear from you. Fasting during the Daniel Fast Diet allows you to eat any of the allowed food 24 hours a day. You or your church could decide not to eat anything from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., but that is not required for the Daniel Fast Diet.

Blessings to you as you do the Daniel Fast Diet! Happy Daniel fasting.

No Such Thing as a Daniel Fast

There is no such thing as a Daniel fast.
James
Thanks for your very short but important e-mail James!

People have at least two reasons to say there is no such thing as a Daniel Fast.

Many people, myself included at one point in my life, don't know that there is a second definition of the word fasting. Merriam Webster's Dictionary says the following about "fasting":

Main Entry: fast
Function: intransitive verb
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English fæstan
Date: before 12th century
  1. to abstain from food
  2. to eat sparingly or abstain from some foods
So we use the 2nd sense of the word fasting. In the Daniel Fast Diet, we are abstaining from many foods, but not all foods.

The second reason I know of why people say there is no such thing as a Daniel Fast, is because the word "fast" is not used in the English text of the book of Daniel.

The issue here is that we are describing Daniel's choice to abstain from certain foods using the word "fast".

We include the word "diet" at our website. So you would likely agree that there is such a thing as a Daniel Diet, even if you didn't know that in English, fasting can mean to abstain from food, or to eat sparingly, or abstain from some foods.

Does this help you James? Did I answer your concern about calling Daniel's Diet a Fast?

Here is a very important Scripture about fasting. I find it very convicting. God gives us yet a third definition of fasting.
Isa 58:3 But they also complain, 'Why do we fast and you don't look our way? Why do we humble ourselves and you don't even notice?' "Well, here's why: "The bottom line on your 'fast days' is profit. You drive your employees much too hard.
Isa 58:4 You fast, but at the same time you bicker and fight. You fast, but you swing a mean fist. The kind of fasting you do won't get your prayers off the ground.
Isa 58:5 Do you think this is the kind of fast day I'm after: a day to show off humility? To put on a pious long face and parade around solemnly in black? Do you call that fasting, a fast day that I, GOD, would like?
Isa 58:6 "This is the kind of fast day I'm after: to break the chains of injustice, get rid of exploitation in the workplace, free the oppressed, cancel debts.
Isa 58:7 What I'm interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, being available to your own families.
Isa 58:8 Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once. Your righteousness will pave your way. The GOD of glory will secure your passage.
Isa 58:9 Then when you pray, GOD will answer. You'll call out for help and I'll say, 'Here I am.' "If you get rid of unfair practices, quit blaming victims, quit gossiping about other people's sins,
Isa 58:10 If you are generous with the hungry and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out, Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness, your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.
Quoted from The Message Bible
Isn't that a powerful passage?!

Fry Potatoes in Olive Oil?

Hello... great site here... me and my mother are doing a daniel fast... we are going a bit longer than a month... i was wondering... is it okay to eat fried foods?... I'm not doing this as a diet... im doing this as spiritual war kinda... ^_^ but i ate a potatoe today and i fried it in olive oil... I was just wondering if thats okay... my mom said we shouldnt fry anything, but I've prayed about it and im not sure i have a problem with it. What do you think?
Stephanie
Good to hear from you Stephanie. Thanks for your kind words. May God bless your Daniel Fast with much spiritual fruit.

We prefer extra virgin olive oil and Colza. Canola and other healthy non-animal fats are OK in moderation. Use as little oil as possible. French fries have too much oil. One of My Addictions is Food

Doing this fast is a paradox for me because one of my addictions is food and I have almost always cheated and am not proud of it. I find myself not wanted to make vows to God because of what Solomons warns us in Eccles. about making a vow and not keeping it. I know that this is a form of bondage. A friend of mine has invited a few of us to joint her on this fast. Our church recently closed and it was our spiritual and emotional hospital and we have been jolted by this event spiritually. We mutually believe God to return to His will for our lives and for direction with whom we should fellowship.
Lalea
Thanks for your note Lalea. We can all identify with your addiction to food. We can't live without it either. Unfortunately, we all eat food that we shouldn't from time to time. The Daniel Fast Diet helps us to take a closer look at what we ingest. Remember, your Daniel Diet is like any other part of your life. When you blow it, you need to confess your sin and get right back on the Daniel Diet. Don't accept the temptation to quit the Fast altogether. That could be the greatest spiritual breakthrough that you can learn from Daniel's Fast Diet. Doing the fast with a friend will give you good accountability.

Make fasting a lifestyle!

The Daniel Fast is an idea way to make fasting a lifestyle! It is a healthy diet of foods that are healthy and tasty. Many people find the Daniel Diet/Vegan Diet to be a source of healing both physically and spiritually as well as emotionally. Fasting as a lifestyle is seeking comfort from God rather than from food.

When you make fasting a lifestyle, you live your life as an instrument in the hands of God. Fasting as a lifestyle is more than what you put in your mouth, it is what you do with your life.

Fasting as a lifestyle can mean denying yourself of negative influences in your life. Maybe you need to deny yourself access to the Internet or television after 7 PM. Then use the hours you gain to enjoy fun times with your friends and family.

What are your ideas for Fasting as a lifestyle? Send us your feedback!

Using Oils in a Daniel Fast Diet

I read somewhere that you could have oils, like vegetable oil, virgin olive oil, what about cannola oil? Also, Is it wrong to slice up fresh potatoes and chop fresh onions and saute them altogether in a skillet? Or would this be considered "fried foods". I asked one of my pastors and he said he felt like the reference to 'fried foods' was like things with batter that are deep fried. Please help me. Thank you. Ava

Thanks for your e-mail Ava.

Our first advice is to do the Daniel fast following the advice of your local church leaders. Many churches have specific rules for their congregations. We agree with your pastor about battered fried foods. In addition, since eggs are avoided by most of us, you can't make most batters since they include eggs.

Concerning oils, we prefer extra virgin olive oil and Colza.

Daniel Fast Diet Menus?

My actual question was in regards to daily nutritional requirements. Would it be possible for you to outline what a day (food wise) in the life of a person on the Daniel Fast should look like? I know that if I eat just fruit and veggies all day long, my sugar levels would be sky high. So, to bring proper balance of nutrition, legumes, whole grains (making complete protiens), fruits, veggies, and seeds are critical in this type of fast. I am not sure how many servings of each in a day I should have. I personally do not have any kind of health problems that would require alterations to the fast, I just want to do it right in the eyes of my Father... Thank you so much for taking the time to consider answering my question.. Also, is fresh ground pepper acceptable? Candace
Thanks for your questions Candice. You (and other readers) are probably more of an expert in nutrition than I am! Please send us your Daniel Fast Diet menu ideas!

Yes, you need a variety of fruit, vegetables, legumes, etc. in your diet. I do that by eating about every three hours.

Examples:
  • Breakfast: oatmeal cooked with some raisins in microwave with citrus fruit, i.e. orange or grapefruit
  • Morning snack: small banana with my awesome peanut butter mix
  • Lunch: one of the great recipes at our recipe page
  • Afternoon snack: apple with almonds and/or other nuts
  • Snack-like supper: open face whole grain bread with natural peanut butter
  • Evening snack: small banana or apple with my awesome peanut butter mix
Spices, including pepper, are allowed. Avoid animal based spices like chicken or beef bullion.

What is the Daniel Fast?

Many ask, What is the "Daniel Fast"? A Daniel Fast or Daniel Diet is a modern application of Daniel's Fast in Daniel chapter 1. When you do Daniel's Diet or Fast, you are avoiding meats and unhealthy foods and eating healthy Vegan foods. Some refer to Daniels Fast as a health food diet. This version of Daniel's fast was created by Elmer Towns in his book Fasting for Spiritual breakthrough.

Whole Grains in the Daniel Diet

Have I misunderstood your recommendation that it is OK to eat 3 cups of uncooked then cooked) oatmeal per day in the beginning of the Daniel Diet?
Thank you!
Cherry

Hi Cherry,
I'm not sure where you read about 3 cups of oatmeal. Oatmeal is allowed in the Daniel Diet, along with all other whole grains. You can eat as much of whole grain products raw or cooked as you desire.

Whole grain products are allowed and can be identified by the ingredient list. Typically if the ingredient lists "whole wheat", "rolled oats", or "whole corn" as the first ingredient, the product is a whole grain food item. Another way to identify whole grains in the foods you eat is to look in the nutritional facts information and check if the food item contains dietary fiber. If it contains a significant amount, it most likely contains whole grains. "Wheat flour" is not a whole grain and therefore does not indicate a whole grain product. Many breads are colored brown (often with molasses) and made to look like whole grain, but are not. Additionally, some food manufacturers make foods with whole grain ingredients, but because whole grain ingredients are not the dominant ingredient, they are not whole grain products.

Whole grains are often more expensive than refined grains, because their higher oil content is susceptible to rancidification, complicating processing, storage, and transport.

From AACC (American Association of Cereal Chemist) definition: "Whole grains shall consist of the intact, ground, cracked or flaked caryopsis, whose principal anatomical components - the starchy endosperm, germ and bran - are present in the same relative proportions as they exist in the intact caryopsis. Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whole_grains

We are sure our foods are made with whole grain, because we grind our grain ourselves.

You can make your own pasta or noodles out of whole grains with a pasta machine.

Thanks,
Mike

Blessed in more ways than one

Thank you for responding to my question. I am practically a vegan due to a major change in my health.

I have acid reflux (6 years) and after trying every medication on the market known to man I decided to go all natural. I am blessed in more ways than one, I am a 20 year breast cancer survivor, and I do not take my blessings for granted. When I changed my diet, due to the reflux, my body felt very healthy and clean. The additives, fats and anything with a face have to be eradicated from my life.

I grow my own veggies and buy organic or farmers grown fruit and veggies. The water, fresh fruit juices (I juice myself) and fruit and soy smoothies are the only liquids I have.

Yes, I must admit that the Daniel fast has made me aware of some of the ingredients in some of the so called healthy foods I digest every day.

However, to make a long story short I would love to join your prayer club. Some of the time I get so caught up in my everyday life that I forget to stop and pray.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

P.S. Don't worry about me jumping back in to my old style because I can't eat the way I used to. Hey, I don't miss it anymore like I use to. I forgot to mention that my faithful husband of 21 years is also on the fast with me.

Sincerely,
Amanda and Jeff

Healthy diet but definitely not a fast

I'm having a hard time of understanding why Daniel ch. 1 is used as a basis for a fast. Daniel did not abstain from food. He ate vegatables and fruit. (pulse) Don't get me wrong I'm a believer in fasting because the Bible is very clear about it. I guess my missionary friend fast everyday because beans and banana's are basically the main food group in the remote regions of Nicaragua. No doubt this would be a great healthy diet but definately not a fast. Any insights would be appreciated. Great site!! Billy

Good question Billy. I asked the same question many years ago when I began fasting with a three day apple fast.

Webster's Dictionary says the following about "fasting":

Main Entry: fast
Function: intransitive verb
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English fæstan
Date: before 12th century
1 : to abstain from food
2 : to eat sparingly or abstain from some foods

So in the sense of the Daniel Fast Diet we are abstaining from some foods. I like to use the term "Daniel's Fast Diet" at our website.

Pasta & cheeses are my hardest foods to give up. (and coffee) But I can do it. This is the first fast I've ever done.. After reading about fastings and all the benefits, I became excited about it and thought I'd go for it. I have several things I need to see a breakthrough in.. My name is Patrick Bass, I am a church planter in the Phoenix-metro area of Tempe, Arizona. My wife, Grace, has recently written a Daniel Fast Cookbook with her mother, Lynda. The book has been endorsed by Elmer L. Towns and is currently being printed for distribution. Would you consider adding this cookbook to your list of books and other resources? We have free recipes and ordering information online at http://www.danielsfastcookbook.com. Thanks and God bless you, Pastor Patrick Bass

God has called me to fast for a ministry I am working with and I want more information on the daniel fast as I am unable to go totally without food. I do well with a partial day fast but not a whole day. I have tried the daniel fast once and it helped. I am currently fasting sugar. Donna

My church has just started a 21 day Daniel fast, it is for the LORD's will to be made clear to each of us and to bring unity to our church and community. I like your web site, and just wanted to say may GOD bless you each and every one. Susan

Please add my child that's in Iraq right now to your prayer and fasting list, not just him but all the Troups that are there because we all know only God can bridge the gap and weather the storm for us all. I feel that God will take care of each and everyone of them in his own special way. Mary

I just wanted to take the time to thank you both for such an awsome website! The information you provided for the Daniel Fast is exceptional and much helpful. I have been doing the Daniel Fast for 3 years now as I was inspired through Free Chapel (Pastor Franklin) and I have really seen the hand and power of God move in my life like never before. Although I didn't have all of what I could and couldn't eat, I have it now thanks to you. I do as Pastor Franklin with the first week just water only and then go into the Daniel Fast. This is day 3 for me and I'm so excited already. I'm certainly passing on your site to many of our members within the congregation and I believe this will help encourage others to join in on this powerful fast. Thank you again, Evangelist Tanya

Tue, 08 Jan 2008

There is a preacher [Pastor Franklin] on one of the major Christian stations and sometimes on secular stations that has rallied people the first of each year to join his church in a fast. Many do not attend his church because of geographical distances, but they do join in a corporate body fast like during Esther's day. That is why I have done it for three years...not only for that, but God has led me to. Michael

First of all thank you so much for your page and all of the great info and helpful resources. May God continue to bless you. I have 2 best friends that I am doing the Daniel fast with for the second time. Our first time was Sept 2007. It was great and we saw many prayers answered and God moved for us in many ways. We researched the fast on the internet and learned alot from trial and error and each other. However, this time it seems to be more of a battle for us and we really feel God is going to move in mighty ways for us,families, church and our community. Frances

Our church is currently promoting a '30-days of fasting for spiritual breakthrough' It is left up to the discretion of each member to select a fast and length thereof for themselves. I chose the Daniel Fast, and found your website when researching the specifics of this fast. Thanks for being there! Donna

Daniel Fast Diet Comments January 1-7, 2008

I too thankyou for an awesome website. We as a church will begin our Daniel Fast Jan 9th. It is good to hear the reports of people that have done the fast and have seen good results due to seeking God's face in a way He's set aside for us in His Word. I am very encouraged and looking forward to the good things He has in store for each of us. God's blessings to you all. Ruthie

I found your site upon Googling Daniel fast. Every year our church in in GA (Free Chapel)is encouraged to start off the year with a 21 day fast--Pastor Franklin actually does a week of just water and then follows with a daniel fast. Most follow a daniel fast. This is only my second year EVER trying a fast. Last year I only made it 5 days--and I felt bad not going the whole 21 days. My goal this year is 10 days and no guilt because I agree it is important to make a decision and then stick with it-- so I did not want to make a choice I was not sure I could follow through with. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your site and to thank you for the information provided. Brenda

My husband and I have started the Hallelujah Diet and after reading about the Daniel Fast I have noticed that its the same diet. We started this lifestyle for health. We are in our 60's and many people in our church have cancer and other serious health challenges. I pray that people who go on the Daniel Fast see the results of feeling better and benefit from their committment to pray and fast for church. God Bless, Roseann

This is a great web site and very helpful. Thank you so much for putting it all together. I have also found a treasury of wonderful vegan, nothing artificial, pure whole foods recipes at www.hacres.com. It's a wonderful help for the Daniels Fast. Blessings to you all, Linda

Is there a daily regimen or routine you can recommend? If possible I would like some guidlines for eating,(when to eat, how many times) when to pray and read the word, when to start this every day and when to close everyday. Santosh

Daniel Fast Diet Comments Oct. - Nov. 2007

Tue, 27 Nov 2007

We are preparing for a Daniel Fast in my Church in January. I found your web site upon googling Daniel Fast Recipes. Your web site is Wonderful. I was so excited when I found out you are serving our Lord in the Ivory Coast. My Aunt served there many years for the Baptists as a Medical Missionary. Her name is Joyce. May God bless you all and keep you safe. You are added to my Prayer Chain daily.

Tue, 06 Nov 2007

Currently we don't have a church home because the Church we were out was doing many things contrary to the Word of Christ. In short I am asking that you and your family pray for me an family during this time in our life. I do have specific goals during the time frame of praying, fasting and transformation. The number one thing is a God Center life guided by his wisdom and holy spirit in all things that I do. I appreciate your prayers given to me and my family and extend my prayers to you/your family. God Bless, Demetrius

God has told me for some time to build my fasting life. I was unsure where to start. Your page REALLY helped me start. Thank you! Rev. Hodari

Tue, 30 Oct 2007

I was also a vegiterian for 8 years and suffered from severe protein deficiency so I want to make sure that I won't harm my body during the fast. I am doing the fast for 2 reasons 1) a spiritual reconnection with God and his word and 2) health benefits. Aida

Daniel Fast Diet Comments Feb. - June 2007

Fri, 22 Jun 2007

I am doing a Daniel fast along with the "40 Days of Prayer and Fasting" led by the International House of Prayer. It was a call to prayer and fasting, especially for the Young Adult generation. I decided last minute that I wanted to participate. After researching the Daniel fast on your website, I decided that was the kind of fast I wanted to do. I was fasting for physical and spiritual renewal and for guidance in my career and education choices. I am currently on day 24 of my fast and I am feeling physically fit, have lost 13 pounds, feel much stronger in my faith, and I am starting to feel pulled in certain directions for my future. God is really pulling through; and I still have 2 weeks left! Thank you so much for this encouraging website (and for all the meal ideas)! God bless. Amy

I was referred to your website for info on a Daniel fast and found that the idea is to eat natural foods, not processed. From my perspective, nowadays the whole wheat, non-processed, natural or organic foods seem like they ARE from the "King's table" as they are often higher priced than the white processed stuff. Also, it seems to me that the purpose for fasting is the key. Eating six small meals may curb the appetite, and be healthy, but is it accomplishing the purpose of going without feeling some emptiness in anticipation of God's touch? I want to know how to balance going the distance with having the energy to accomplish daily tasks and still prepare meals for the other members in my family....keeping it simple.

Our church started the Daniel Fast on the 1st of March and finished on the 21st. We had 25 plus people participate. My husband and I have made some life style changes along with others in the congregation. We have decided to stay away from meats i.e...... beef and pork altogether. I just finished going through my cupboards and pulled anything that has additives, preservatives or artificial ingredients. No canned or processed foods for the rest of our lives. The church, as a body, fasted for 1. church vision, 2. fresh and new anointing of the Holy Ghost, 3. Possession of the Land (city for God). We believe these are honorable prayers and believe that our prayers will come to pass.

My husband and I have been married 2 years. When we married I asked God for at least 20 years with my husband here on earth; unless the rapture came first! I believe, along with the fast came the answer to my wedding vow prayer. We both feel so much healthier. Thank you for your prayers and support.

We wanted to thank you for your very helpful website. My husband and I were looking for info on the Daniel fast. Your info helped us greatly. We've been going through a very difficult time financially and are trusting God for His provision. We would appreciate your prayers. Thanks, Joey and Natalie

I just started the Daniel fast. I did hear that we could have a bread called "Ezekial Bread" it is in the frozen section of your grocery store. It is vegan bread. It has no perservatives so it will spoil quickly if not kept refrigerated or frozen.

Send us your Daniel Fast prayer requests, recipes and questions.

Daniel Fast Diet Comments January 2007

Tue, 23 Jan 2007

Thank you! This is my first time fasting. I thank you for this web page. My prayer life and my relationship with God have changed. My church is participating in the Daniel Fast. We are doing this for 31 Days. This webpage has helped me. It gave me good ideas on what to eat and not to eat. I did not know what I was doing, so I decided to do some research on the fast. This web page gave the best resources. Thank you again

Mon, 22 Jan 2007 from Sheri

This is a great support site. I am beginning a 21 day Daniel fast today. I have been able to complete this type of fast before and it really delivers breakthroughs! I am praying and fasting this time for spiritual growth, my future husband, and a school building for my students. I will shout for joy when my God delivers. Thank God I have a God who hears and answers our prayers.

Our church started the Daniels Fast today for 21 days. Many of the younger generation are doing this for the first time, and had a lot of questions. Your website was a great help. Thank you. The quickest way that I can explain to someone what to eat and not to eat it this: If came from the earth, and its in original form, you can have it. That means all fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes, seeds, and herbs. You can take and cook from those, make juices, etc.... Its a guideline that we have used many times, and it makes things easier. When people ask about oils and spices, I tell them that if you can make it out of the products listed about, then its ok. That means spices made just from herbs, no additives, 100% natural pressed oils, unrefined, salt is ok, its from the ocean(part of the earth). We exclude all dairy products because they come from animals. So thats how we go about it. Galina Orlando, FL

I will be restarting a Daniel Fast on Monday. I have to restart because I just read what the actual guidelines for the fast were. I had been eating fried vegetables, white rice and some other no-no's. thus, I need to cut those out and restart. I am fasting for insight, wisdom and direction. I also hope that I would lose some weight. But weight loss isn't the focus. Gerald

Thanks for your note and encouragement Gerald. Don't be to hard on yourself about the fried vegetables. You were fasting with what you felt to be the "rules". I'm sure there are as many official rules for the Daniel Fast as there are people fasting. We have no idea if Daniel fried his vegetables or not. It is a good idea to avoid unhealthy fat! The line "margarine, shortening, animal fat, high fat products" doesn't have to exclude good oils like olive, peanut, and colza. Your friend in Abidjan, Mike Farho

This is the first time i am going to fast and i am nervous about it. The whole church is going to do the Daniel 21 day fast. i am used to eating anything and everything so i am not sure now ideas of what to eat. Could you please send me some recipe or something to help me complete my fast. I dont want to lose out. i am starting tomorrow 1/8/2007 so i need some ideas. Thank you

Google for vegetarian menus and recipes. You should find much good stuff to eat. We have a Lebanese stew (make it without the lamb), salad and a dip you can try out at http://www.Farho.net/lubi

My favorite food is a special natural peanut butter recipe on bananas! I mix natural peanut butter, bran cereal, ground flax, almond butter and peanuts together. Your friend, Mike Farho

Hello, I found out my pastor had our congregation start the Daniel Fast on 1/2/07 - I didn't know about it since I wasn't there on New Year's when it was announced. I plan to start it Tuesday and am glad your website details everything that I questioned. Suggestion: Ezekiel Bread, which contains Organic Sprouted Wheat, Organic Sprouted Barley, Organic Sprouted Millet, Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Lentils, Organic Sprouted Soybeans, Organic Spelt, Filtered Water, Fresh Yeast and Sea Salt may be an even better alternative to anything containing flour. I look forward to writing with a praise report. MH

I am starting a 21 day fast today and at first I thought that this didn't go with my belief of fasting. Since fasting for me was to abstain from any type of food for a specific amount of days, but now reading more about it, I am happy about it. I pray that the Lord Guides me in the direction I need to take in my life. God bless you all. FD

I will be starting the 21 day fast today. Its interesteing how the Lord leads you in advance and prepares you to make this committment. I have done fasts in the past and I know from experience that you change by God's power in work in you. I'm excited to see what will come to surface and the changes that I'll make with this fast for 2007. Teresa

Sat, 6 Jan 2007

Thanks Mike, I am currently on Day 5 of a total fast and after day 11, I am going to start a 10 day Daniel Fast. The Lord is Good and I am breaking so many chains that are binding me. All of my sin keeps coming to the surface in my mind so I have the ability to repent and forgive, above all the Spirit keeps telling me to stop assaulting my mind and my flesh. I spent so much time consumed with so much including myself(selfishness). I realized I put so many false gods above The God Almighty. I will stay in prayer about the other foods and I want to thank you for your help, may the Lord shower you with his abundant BLESSINGS! Your Brother In Christ

Thu, 04 Jan 2007

Our church is going on Daniels fast for 21 days starting tomorrow ( 1/05/07 ) I am very excited about what will happen and can't wait to watch God work his miracles! I am a little nervous about just eating fruits, veggies, and water...but I know that God will be here to help me! I am fasting for my future husband & For guidance on my future like colleges, etc. I am so glad I found this website, it has really helped me! I will let you know how everything is going.

Wed, 03 Jan 2007

Thanks for your insight and help, I am a pastor in South Carolina (USA) and our church is beginning a 21 day corporate fast this coming Sunday (01-07-07). I have given them a copy of the food listings and people have had some questions (including me). Thanks.

Tue, 02 Jan 2007

I just started my Daniel Fast today and was unclear on exactly what to eat and not to eat because different people have explained it differently to me. Now that I've read your article, I have much more clarity on how I should proceed to claim the blessings of 2007. Thank you for the information and may God greatly bless and enrich your ministry to continue to give light and guidance to the body. 2007 is the year of completion and abundance. May this ministry be abundantly blessed to do all that is ordained for the kingdom.

Daniel Fast Diet Comments from 2006

Fri, 27 Oct 2006

I am currently getting prepared to start a Daniel fast for several reasons: closer relationship with God, financial breakthrough, not looking to counterfeit options of comfort(including food), breaking idols in my life, better relationship with my husband and family life. I am very ready and excited about the results. Michelle

Tue, 10 Oct 2006

I was led to do a Daniel Fast for 14 days. I was looking for spiritual breakthrough in not accepting counterfeit comfort but looking to have a more intimate relationship with my Father God. I asked Him for help, and decided to go on a fast. I asked Him how many days and I heard clearly 14. I was tired of using restraint in the counterfeit ways to receive comfort in my life. I wanted to receive full deliverance. It was amazing to me how easy it was to fast - because God was with me. I never craved or had a break in my fast. I never saw it as a diet. I am confident the Father has released me from these areas in my life to a more full life in Him. The side effect was feeling better too. Praise the Lord.

Wed, 20 Sep 2006

I went on the Daniel's Fast two years ago for spiritual reasons, and I saw so many miracles. My husband and I went on a 40 day Fast. No Meat, No Sweets, and No Bread. It was hard at first, but every day got better. We continue the fast off and on for a year and a half. I lost 70 pounds and a lot of my illness left my body. Most of all, my husband and I saw God work right before our eyes. We saw miracles unroll. So, we told our Pastor about the Daniel's Fast, and the whole church went on a 40 day Fast with us. At the end of the 40 days, several bodies were healed of sickness. Thank God for the Daniel's Fast. Sis. Janice

Hello. I am presently doing a 40-day Daniel Fast. A couple months ago, I completed a 21-day Daniel Fast and the results were astonishing. I experienced wonderful insights and breakthroughs. The positive affect it made on my health was noticed by my physician. Thank you, Mitchell

I'm interested in the Daniel diet for two reasons. One, I'm a Christian, and two, I could stand to lose about 30 pounds. God Bless, Anita
