Want to eat cleaner

Praise God! Thank you for having this site it's a blessing. I'm want to do the Daniel Fast, I just heard of this. I also want to eat "cleaner" no meat. I was wondering does anyone ever say how much weight they've lost? I'm 5'6 and 150lbs. But I want to fast without telling anyone. I don't want to deal with it. If I do fast and look sick or my eyes sunken in I'll have to tell on myself. Please let me know. I want more of God and I feel that this is the starting point for me to start my "walk" with God. Adriana
Thanks for your encouragement Adriana. The Daniel Fast is an excellent way to improve your walk with God and enjoy spiritual breakthrough. We think it is also a healthy diet. Some folks have written to say they lost a lot a weight.

If readers lost weight doing the Daniel Fast, please leave a comment so we can hear about it. You don't have to log in or start an account. Just enter your name or use anonymous.

Thanks,
Mike

Mint, A Healing Herb

Mint and sweet-scented plants are mentioned in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke in the passages where Jesus scolded the Pharisees for gladly giving a tenth of their garden herb harvest to God while failing to honor Him in far more important matters. The Jewish people enjoyed mint with their spring Passover feasts and placed mint on the floors of their synagogues. Lamb with mint, of course, is the star attraction on many tables during the Passover and Easter holidays. Some species of mint are used to treat Alzheimer's disease and to flavor candies, gum, toothpaste, and liqueurs. They are also used as digestive aids. Peppermint oil is antiallergenic and is used in aromatherapy to stimulate brain activity.

Using Oils in a Daniel Fast Diet

I read somewhere that you could have oils, like vegetable oil, virgin olive oil, what about cannola oil? Also, Is it wrong to slice up fresh potatoes and chop fresh onions and saute them altogether in a skillet? Or would this be considered "fried foods". I asked one of my pastors and he said he felt like the reference to 'fried foods' was like things with batter that are deep fried. Please help me. Thank you. Ava

Thanks for your e-mail Ava.

Our first advice is to do the Daniel fast following the advice of your local church leaders. Many churches have specific rules for their congregations. We agree with your pastor about battered fried foods. In addition, since eggs are avoided by most of us, you can't make most batters since they include eggs.

Concerning oils, we prefer extra virgin olive oil and Colza. Canola and other healthy non-animal fats are OK in moderation. Use as little oil as possible. French fries have too much oil. Spray some Pam or Colza oil on your fries and bake them. We use olive oil in the place of butter. Add a little salt if you like salted butter. Don't use olive oil for frying, it cannot handle the heat.
