Melissa's yummy crepe pancake type breakfast bread

Invite us over when you are making a batch of these! I would top them with some natural peanut butter.

Take a banana put it in baggie and mush it. Add 1 T canola oil, mush it all together.
1 c wheat flour. (I used freshly ground whole wheat pastry berries.)
1/8 t sea salt
soy milk -add to desired consistency
Mix flour and salt, then add mushed banana mixture and enough soy milk to make it a pretty thin consistency. (Thinner than pancake batter)
Use oil in pan so it doesn't stick.
Cook over medium heat.

Is Daniel Fast a Diet?

Listen, the Daniel fast is not a diet. No fast is a diet. Careful... Joy

Thank you Joy, you raise an important question.

We use the term "diet" in the general sense meaning "the food you decide to eat." We never promote it as a weight loss diet, like the cabbage diet. In Daniel 1:15, Daniel and his friends were "fatter in flesh" after only ten days! :-)

Many more people write us to say it is not a fast, because you are allowed to eat food. They don't understand that there are partial fasts and total fasts. So we say Daniel Diet Fast to help these people understand that this is a partial fast.

However, most people do lose weight on the Daniel Fast Diet, because they are avoiding the junk foods that made them fat. If you remove only white sugar and high fructose corn syrup from your diet, you will consume hundreds fewer calories per day.

Every 100 calories you eat require one mile to walk off. An average soda is 180 calories. That means after a 12 oz. soda you need to walk an extra 1.8 miles. Very few people do, so they store the fat on their bodies.

We promote the Daniel Fast Diet as a partial fast for spiritual breakthrough. One blessing or spiritual breakthrough for many is self control. It results in weight loss, because of their rejection of junk foods on a permanent basis.

Brenda's Basil Spiked Tomato Soup

Basil Spiked Tomato Soup for your Daniel Fast

Combine 1/2 of a large onion, diced and 4-6 cloves of garlic, minced; puree together in a food processor (amount of garlic depends on your personal preference).
Saute in 2 Tblsp olive oil for approximately 4 minutes;
add 3 Tblsp finely chopped fresh basil, or 2 Tblsp dried basil).
Saute another minute or 2 (do not brown).
Add 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste and cook another minute or so.
Add 4 cups water, 2 (15 oz each) cans of tomato sauce, 1 (28 oz) can of crushed tomatoes (or you can puree 28 oz of diced tomatoes if you like or leave them diced depending on how chunky you like your tomato soup), 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp freshly ground black pepper.
Cook until soup simmers.
Serve hot.

Raw or Cooked?

I am doing the Daniel Fast for ten days. I would like to know if there is anything that specifically says whether or not you can cook vegetables or if you have to eat them raw. Julia

Good question Julia. There are good reasons to eat your food raw, but that is not a requirement of the Daniel Fast. Read more about raw food in the Hallelujah Diet Books. You may cook your Daniel Fast foods, if you so desire.

Spread thinly sliced cucumbers, green peppers and carrots.

Mona's Tasty Black Bean Soup

Ingredients:

1 lg. can of black beans
1 green pepper/ 1 red pepper/1 onion
1/2 cup fresh finely chopped carrots

DanielDietFast.com Blueberry Citrus Oatmeal recipe
Ingredients:

1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions:

Put frozen blueberries in a microwave-safe container in the microwave for 1 minute.
Crush some of the berries to make blueberry juice.
Add oatmeal, orange juice, water, and cinnamon to the blueberries.
Heat in microwave on high for 1 minute 45 seconds.
Mix together.
Let cool for 2 minutes.
ENJOY!!!

Kim's Whole Grain Breakfast

Hello again, I just wanted to share something that I have found that I like to eat for breakfast or lunch during the Daniel fast. Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter (ingredients Peanuts and salt - but you have to stir it real good because the oil all rises to the top, then refrigerate and the oil wont return) & thinly sliced banana on either an organic
Brown Rice Cake (ingredients Organic Whole Grain Brown Rice and salt)or on a Ryvita Whole Grain Rye Crispbread (ingredients Whole Grain Rye Flour, Sesame Seeds, and Salt). I like it best on the crispbread but really both are good. Its also quick and easy to prepare at home or at my desk at work. I also like popcorn popped in canola oil with salt. I just pop it in a pan like mom used to do before the microwave was invented :0) Kim by iPhone

You can heat the corn tortillas or wheat tortillas in the Microwave but preferrable on a skillet, then wrap or just fold tortilla over these ingredients.

Patato Slices Baked in the Oven but Soft Cooked

¾ ounce/20 gram bunch of parsley and/or basil
6 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
Small garlic clove

Purée all the ingredients together in a food processor.

Tastes great on salad or use in the place of butter on whole grain breads.

Walter's Veggie Chili Daniel Fast Diet Recipe
Do this in a slow cooker or crockpot.
Saute 2 large onions chopped fine in olive oil
Then add together:

1 whole red or yellow bell pepper chopped fine
1 Jalapeno pepper seeded and chopped fine
1 tablespoon minced garlic.
1 tsp of salt
pepper and chili powder to taste
2 cans diced tomatos with juice
2 cans red kidney beans with juice
2 cans pinto beans with juice
2 cans black beans with juice

Cook 2.5 hours on high or low for 6 hours.

In a soup pot,
1 can black beans undrained
1 can great northern beans undrained
1 can kidney beans drained and rinsed
1 can refried beans
1 can of diced tomatoes
1 can of rotelli tomatoes
1 cup water
1 package of taco seasoning mix (you can also make your own)
Heat on low for 1 hour and enjoy with whole grain organic corn chips. Even
the kids will enjoy.

Hi, I just wanted to send my comments that the Lord has advised me on during a Daniel fast.

"Royal Foods" also includes anything that the individual would find indulgent. For example, I love hummus, so even if it might be okay for another individual, I know that if I were to eat it during the fast, I wouldn't be keeping my commitment in denying the flesh. Same thing with peanut butter, it's a favorite I eat daily, so I avoid it during the fast. It's not always a list of foods that will prevail, but the underlying reason we choose them. If I'm eating for mere sustenance, then fine, but if I'm eating a big bowl of fruit salad, for me personally, that's hardly denying the flesh. We must remain prayerful in choosing the foods individually. Thank you. Nancy

Thank you Nancy. That is a great personal application of the Daniel Fast. We all need to listen and obey as God speaks to our hearts. Please, let us avoid judging others for applying the Daniel Fast in a way that is different from ours.

Sharon's Fruit Salad

Ingredients:

1 apple - cubed (small)
1 banana (3/4 sliced into thin slices)
1/2 c pineapple (cut into small chunks)
raisins
nuts
sunflower seeds

Topping:

Puree 1/4 banana and 6 or 7 strawberries.
Add sweetener to taste (If not on the Daniel Fast)

Blend all ingredients and pour topping over and blend thoroughly. It's heavenly!

Marcy's cinnamon tea

My church family and I are starting the Daniel fast and I wanted to share some options we are using.

Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum Verum) and Indones...

Instead of coffee or tea, we are using cinnamon tea. You can find the sticks at any grocer or health food store. Boil till reddish and keep adding water each time you run out till no red is in the water. I usually drink cinnamon tea for a whole week before I use new sticks. Great Detoxer. I also use Orange or Lemon tree leaves. Boil for 20 min. and drink with honey. Also, we like spearmint leaf tea. Also found in health food stores, or you can grow your own. Very hearty growers. Boil and drink with honey.

All of these Teas can be had either hot or cold on ice.

Marcy's Cactus Salad

Cactus Salad or "Ensalada de Nopal":
You can find ready to cook Cactus "Nopales" at your Grocer or Health food stores.

Dice cactus and rinse well. It will be gooey!
Cook in skillet with enough water to cover cactus.
Drain, rinse, and cool.
Finely cut 1 bunch Cilantro, 2 Small Tomatoes and 1 Large Onion.
Mix all ingredients together and spead on baked corn tortilla and eat as a "Chalupa".

You can spead Pinto Beans on Corn Tortilla then add Cactus Salad. Or you can eat it as a wrap using Whole Wheat Tortilla by adding salad only, or adding beans and salad.

Any of these can be had with any picante salsa or diced fresh or canned Jalapenos.

1/4 cup water
1/8 cup raw honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves
4 tablespoons lemon juice

Lisa's Greek Potato Stew

Ingredients:
2 1/2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/3 cup olive oil
1 large onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 cup whole, pitted kalamata olives
1 1/3 cups chopped tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 pinch ground cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
In a large sauté pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the potatoes and onions and stir. Stir in the garlic. Add the olives and cook and stir for several minutes. Stir in the tomatoes, and oregano.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Ingredients:
3 avocados - peeled, pitted, and mashed
1 lime, juiced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup diced onion
3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
2 roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 pinch ground cayenne pepper

Instructions:
In a medium bowl, mash together the avocados, lime juice, and salt. Mix in onion, cilantro, tomatoes, and garlic. Stir in cayenne pepper. Refrigerate 1 hour for best flavor, or serve immediately.

Mrs. Jones' Brown Rice Dinner Recipe

First received Tue, 16 Jan 2007 from Mrs. JonesThis recipe follows the Daniel Diet Fast guidelines and is filling and delicious! This is my original creation... if someone else has already "cooked" it up it is merely a coincidence.

1 cup of Brown Rice
2.5 cups water

Bring to rolling boil, reduce heat and simmer/steam for 45 minutes. Half way through the cooking time, add:

1/2 cup of fresh salsa
1 cup of frozen corn
1/2 of a chopped red bell pepper
3/4 cup of cooked black beans
a pinch of pepper to taste

Stir and replace cover for remainder of cooking time. Serve with fresh sliced avocado.

I received this recipe from my friend last year for the Daniel Fast.

Shirlyn's Baked Potato

Ingredients:
Idaho potatoes
Soy milk
Natural Sea Salt, Ground Pepper
Steamed Broccoli or Fresh Corn

Bake potatoes in oven as you normally would, but coat lightly with olive oil before wrapping in foil. Open potatoes and mash, then cover with soy milk. Season with sea salt and pepper, cover with either steam broccoli or corn. Very good and filling.
