Shirlyn's Baked Potato

Steamed broccoliImage via Wikipedia
I received this recipe from my friend last year for the Daniel Fast.

Shirlyn's Baked Potato

Ingredients:
Idaho potatoes
Soy milk
Natural Sea Salt, Ground Pepper
Steamed Broccoli or Fresh Corn

Bake potatoes in oven as you normally would, but coat lightly with olive oil before wrapping in foil. Open potatoes and mash, then cover with soy milk. Season with sea salt and pepper, cover with either steam broccoli or corn. Very good and filling.
Judy

Some folks might not eat this because of the soy milk. There are many opinions about soy products in general and soy milk in a Daniel Fast Diet.

Cereal and milk for breakfast?

Is there any kind of cereal and milk we can have for breakfast? Inez
Sorry milk is an animal product, so it should be avoided. One option we use is oatmeal, cooked in the microwave with some raisins. It is yummy and has no processed sugars. There are many good whole grain cereals. You can experiment with cereals, like eating them with natural orange juice. I mix them into my natural peanut butter.

Whole grain products are allowed and can be identified by the ingredient list. Typically if the ingredient lists "whole wheat", "rolled oats", or "whole corn" as the first ingredient, the product is a whole grain food item. Another way to identify whole grains in the foods you eat is to look in the nutritional facts information and check if the food item contains dietary fiber. If it contains a significant amount, it most likely contains whole grains.

Carole's Daniel Fast Peanut Butter

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsalted peanuts
  • 5 Pitted Dates
  • Organic unsweetened Soy Milk
Instructions:
Blend in a processor or Magic Bullet, serve on Low Sodium Ezekiel bread. For an extra treat make a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Makes several servings. Store in fridge.

Thanks for your recipe Carole. Some folks allow soy milk. We avoid it, because it isn't a whole grain. You can probably make it without the soy milk.

We make our own peanut butter with our food processor, but have found we need about a cup of natural peanut butter to get the process started.

Check out my favorite peanut butter mix!

Soya milk and yogurt or rice milk?

Can you use Soya Milk and yogurt or rice milk on the diet. I consume a lot of yogurt and that would be the thing I most miss?
Janice
Thanks for your e-mail Janice. We really love the Daniel Fast. It is so thrilling to help people achieve spiritual breakthrough.

Rice and Soy milk aren't whole grain. Since the milk is filtered to remove the pulp from the grain. So they should be avoided.

You will miss eating yogurt, but it is part of the sacrifice you make when you fast.

My first day on the Daniel fast

In an answer to prayer, I found your website shortly after midnight on 02/02/08. So here I am today. A few hours of sleep and well into my first day on the fast. I'm looking forward to seeing what God has for me. He is always so faithful when we trust in him completely. My question is, what is your opinion about sugar free, plain soy milk and tofu? Kim

Dear Kim,
Thanks for your encouraging e-mail Kim. We're glad you found us too!

Technically, soy products are OK. However, there is still great debate about the health effects of these products. Google "soy thyroid".

We don't take a stand on the issue at our Daniel's Fast Diet website, but we don't eat soy products in our home.
