George arrived to tour the zoo with us. This is a large Silk Cotton tree or Kapok (Ceiba pentrandra). Notice how the trunk branches out into supports. In French it is called a Fromager. Fromager is French for cheese tree, because the ripe seedpod smells like cheese.

The others were all on this bench that was on two piles of dirt a foot above the ground. Erosion had worn away the surrounding dirt.

John has been having trouble with his shoulder since Iraq. He carried incredible amounts of weight all day long. His armor was 50 lbs. plus his medic's backpack. He is having physical therapy and might start seeing a chiropractor this week.

John passed his motorcycle license test on his first attempt. It isn't easy to drive a huge bike like his through the tight course. The DMV officer gave helpful advice, but two others there that morning failed the test.

We just got off the phone with John. He is happy about his promotion to Army Specialist. He is also making plans for his vacation in July. The Army ships their soldiers wherever they want for their vacation. So John found a reasonably priced Army sponsored hotel in Hawaii! Pray for him as he works out the final details.

Thanks for praying for John and his girlfriend Sarah. They are both in Iraq now, or at least real close. They haven't given us specific locations. They are doing well and grateful for your prayers.

Our Senegal/Côte d'Ivoire Field Forum is over. It was a real good time of learning and fellowship. I put together a new slide show on the bus from Saly to Dakar. Check it out. It includes photos of a dozen Senegal horse carts.

Now we are recovering and getting some last stuff done before we return to Abidjan on Thursday. Tomorrow, I will pick up some Singulair for Josh.

Skiing Mount Megeve

John was too small (3 years old) for the other short lifts, so we had to ride the cable car to the top of the mountain.

When we got there, we only had one way down, on our skis. Before taking the plunge, I handed my camera to a Frenchman to get proof that we really were on the top of the mountain. Then we skied down together, with his skis between my skis. I held his shoulders as we skied the total length of the longest trail. We only fell once the whole way down.

We're in Albertville, France, the future site of the 1992 Winter Olympics. Sue and I are in School learning French all day. In the background is the French pre-school where John studies all day. We all get to go home for lunch together.

He was about two years old. Climbed up into the sink. Covered his whole body with shaving gel, started giving himself a bodybuilder's shave.
