Dear Pillars of Hope Prayer Team:
"Troubles are often the tools by which God fashions us for better things." Henry Ward Beecher
I don't understand why God allows certain things to happen to his children. I've been wrestling with some of his permissive will these past few days. Why did he remove us (Steve and Amy) from the ministry we enjoyed so much in Bouake? Why did he permit some friends of ours to be attacked by armed robbers in the middle of the night in their home in another West African country. Why does he allow evil to be released in the way it seems to have been released in the past number of months? I don't know, but I do know that He knows all things and He will also make all things right. His plan is error-free. I only hope and pray that some of these troubles are the tools God is using "to fashion us for better things".
Praise Bulletin: God has opened the doors for Sekou Makasa (Say-koo Ma-ka-sa) to join the ministry in Bouake this next year as pastor. He is a convert from a Jula background and a gifted evangelist. We are delighted that he and his wife and family will be joining the ministry there.
Praise Bulletin: We continue to praise God for our new piece of property. It will be very helpful for the ongoing development of the ministry. Pray that we will be able to see the funds come in so that we can build on this piece of property.
Praise Bulletin: Another lady from the prison ministry that Carina has been involved in recently came to faith in Christ. Pray that she will grow and put down solid roots.
Praise Bulletin: A recent trip back to the village of Kamoro, where we did a week of evangelism earlier this year, revealed that 5 of the new believers are persevering. Pray that they will be used to draw others to the Lord.
Prayer Bulletin: Pray for Pastor Jean and Martha as they finish their last months at the House of Mercy. Pray that they will finish strong with some great experiences to be encouraged by as they return for their last year of Bible School. Their last Sunday will be September 8th.
Prayer Bulletin: Pray for Pastor Sekou and his wife as they move and settle in Bouake. Pray that they will be encouraged by the believers and that there will be a quick bonding of relationships.
Prayer Bulletin: Security issues. Pray for our team and their safety. These are difficult times in this country and safety is an issue. Pray that God will put His hedge of protection around us.
Prayer Bulletin: Steve and Amy are praying for God's direction for ministry in Abidjan. The needs are abundant, and the interest is there. Pray for discernment to know what is the best use of their gifts and experience.
Prayer Bits and Pieces:
- Pray for Diomande as he continues to struggle in his faith. Pray that he will exercise his faith.
- Pray for the organization of another women's training seminar for October.
- Pray for the organization of an evangelism outing for November and possibly in January, as well.
- Pray that the Lord will raise up some strong leaders in the House of Mercy Church.
We are dreaming big about what God would want us to do. We don't want to start things that can't be continued after our departure. But we want to throw out a "big net" in order to bring in the greatest amount of harvest for the kingdom. Thanks for joining with us in seeing this happen.
