Mike's 30th birthday

Tue, 29 May 2007

It makes sense that I'm 30 years old, since Sue just turned 29, again. But actually, it was on May 29, 1977, that I was born again. It was at the Windy Gap YoungLife Camp in North Carolina. It was fun for Joshua and I to visit the camp during our international worker tour in NC last March.

Thank you Heavenly Father, that Mike visited Windy Gap 30 years ago. Thank You for the many opportunities You've given Mike over the years to share Jesus with others. Bless Mike and Sue with many more opportunities to share Jesus in the future.

At home with Jesus

Wed, 23 May 2007

Sue's father, Roy Porter Jr., died Tuesday of liver and bone cancer. He awoke early, asking his son, Jim, to read the Gospel of John to him. He passed gently into eternity at around 8:35am. We arrived minutes later. Sue led us in singing some of Roy's favorite hymns. We will receive visitors at the Hamilton West Funeral Home in Des Moines on Thursday evening. Roy's funeral will be Friday at 10:00am followed by a luncheon at 1:00pm. Both will be at First Federated Church at 4801 Franklin Ave. in Des Moines, IA.

Heavenly Father, please comfort the family at this time of great loss. Give each one strength as they miss Roy each day.

At church in Omaha

Tue, 15 May 2007

Hope you had a happy Mother's Day with your mom or children! It was our first Sunday in Omaha. We made the most of the occasion, speaking in a number of Sunday School classes. Sue even got a phone call and an e-mail from John in Iraq. It was also Hyame's 50th birthday, in Abidjan. It was great to get her on the phone. Today is Sue's birthday too, but I'm forbidden to give her age.

Heavenly Father, help us to get better at sharing Christ with others as we grow older. Use our weaknesses to make Your strength know to others.

Working for peace

Tue, 08 May 2007

Good news continues in Cote d'Ivoire. There are many difficulties to overcome, but our friends are encouraged. Last week, ex-rebel soldiers and government soldiers started joint patrols in some problems areas. They are replacing the UN and French peace keeping forces. People are returning from Abidjan to their homes in Bouake.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for these great steps toward peace in Cote d'Ivoire. Please open many doors for the proclamation of your Good News throughout the country.

It was wonderful in Ottumwa

Wed, 02 May 2007

Thanks so much for your prayers for our meetings in Ottumwa, IA. We started on Friday evening and finished Sunday evening. This young Hispanic church had a great kick-off for their first missions conference ever. Sunday night, a third of the group stood to show the Lord and others that they were willing to send their children and grand children to the four corners of the Earth. Two young people were prayed over by the church, as they desire to be international workers.

Heavenly Father, inspire, guide and protect Mike, Sue and Joshua as they travel to Des Moines, IA to speak Friday - Sunday at First Federated Church.
