Fuel went up 44% this week.
Overnight, the price of diesel fuel for our vehicle went from $4.93 to $7.10 a gallon in Cote d'Ivoire. Gas is now $7.19 a gallon. We're grateful that our vehicles get great mileage. How much do you pay for fuel?We went to the grocery store today and stocked up. All food items will soon cost more, because of the increase in fuel costs. We're finding ourselves doing more of our visits by phone, to cut ministry expenses. We're as careful as we can be about making any purchases for our ministry that will influence the cost of our work here. Our Toyota gets much better mileage than our old
Peugeot. We drive our tiny Suzuki Samurai or motorcycle when possible. Last year, we used our Farho Work gifts to purchase a laser printer. It dramatically reduced our printing costs compared to our inkjet printer. We're grateful for your generous and sacrificial gifts to send us here to share the Good News in Abidjan. What ideas can you share, to help us lower our ministry expenses?

Oh, my! Our gas is just over $4+ a gallon. We would be in dire circumstances if it shot up to $7 + overnight. Lou is a Realtor and everyday he drives, and drives and drives long distances to take clients to homes for viewing, etc, or to scout homes for clients who may be interested. You have good ideas you have shared Mike, and honestly we have come through a difficult time financially because of Lou's occupation. BUT, God! He IS faithful!
Dear Lord, please give Mike and Sue Your wisdom to know how best to stock, save, preserve, and hold loosely to all You have given to them. Thank you , Lord, for Your precious, faithful hand of provision for all of Your children around. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
God bless all of you, Mike!
Lovingly in Christ our Lord,
Susie w/Lou
I do understand the increase in fuel costs. We spent last week in Iowa City with my husband's Uncle who had a seizure and was hospitalized there. It cost me $100 + just to make the trip up to my daughter's in Washington, back and forth to Ia City and home again to Keokuk. It is about $60 a week to get back and forth to work and ministry functions.
We pay $4.19 per gallon now for the lowest octane level of fuel. It's ridiculous. I have been reading in magazines that part of the cost is from replacing new pipilines for the oil companies.
Blessings,
Susan
I thought it was bad here! Gas is 4.09 and diesel is 4.80 per gallon. Its getting tough just to maintain, little else. I've heard it is very difficult overseas. But we still serve an awesome God who controls all things.
That is a BIG jump in gas!!SC is about the lowest in the US- we have less tax. I think it was $3.89 when my daughter filled my car last Thurs.( I have her fill it when it is half empty). We use my 15 yr. old car when she takes me shopping- it needs to be driven and I don't drive far anymore. Everytime we grocery shop I notice a raise in food prices and we shop at Walmarts. I know it is hard
cutting on your expenses.
From $3.80 to 4.19, in North Central Iowa, going up weekly. Hapve a blessed day.
Thank you for the updates.
Gas here ranges from $3.99 to $4.05/gallon. Diesel is $4.79, that's what Bill uses for the truck. Like you we have cut back on our "running around". Try to do all stops at one time.
It has been very hot here, very dry. We are finally getting some rain, probable not enough. Know that we are praying for you!
WOW!
We now pay about 1.75 per liter x 3.8=$6.65 per gallon I guess.
We (in Japan) are now paying $1 more per liter than 2 yrs ago!!!
Great to hear U can use Motorcycle,
Which makes us feel glad we could help U out w that!
Also your cost-saving measures seem very good.
Oil is finally starting to go down a bit..
Gas in Boise, Idaho is 4.09.
Traveling to see our daughter and family in CA it was up to about 4.60.
A real bummer when your kids are all spread out!
Greetings!
The price of regular gas with Ethanol at a station near our house is currently $4.82; price is changing every few days - up one day and then down a few
cents over the next few days. Last week we put $50 into our 15 gallon tank and didn't quite fill it!!
We had become aware of some of these things making your life more complicated and have been asking our Father to supply all your needs daily.
We are hoping and praying Josh does not have to contract the measles - trust Nassif feels better now.
Thank you again for keeping us informed.
Love in Jesus
Vern and Inez
It sounds like you are doing what you can to slow the growth of costs. Just to compare, the price of diesel fuel here in Belgium is €1,35 per liter and rising (That's about $8.50 or more, close to what you pay). Food has already jumped more than 10% in the last 6 months for us.
Peace,
Martin
the gas price is stunning! how is it effecting the economy? are many of the ppl. vulnerable to destitution at this point?
prices are getting gnarley here also but only $4/gal. on gas so far. it is higher in other parts of the country. it is, of course, as you noted ,effecting all prices.
alot of suvs for sale and a big jump in scooter sales.
thank you for your faithful updates. i lift you in prayer to our gracious and loving father.
Pray that God will keep Mikes tank full of gas like he did with the oil with the widow in 1kings 17; 8-16 the bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah. And
Elisha in 2Kings 4;1-7 There is not another vessel. So the oil Ceased. God does it 2x's in time of need of 2 different widows and threw 2 different prophets, is anything too difficult for God? Jeremiah 32; 17.....Nothing is too hard for You (God).
HOLY MOLY!!!! We are at 4:04$
for regular - my toyota used to cost $16 to fill, last week it was $43.00!!! Needless to say, we were on fumes when we pulled into the station. I got an email from someone who used to work at a gas station & it said to keep your tank at least half full all the time, if I can find the email I will send it to you. Made sense the way he put it. I know groceries are up for everything here - I would hate to be feeding a big family today. Everything has skyrocketed price wise - interesting times we live in. Too bad we can't drill for oil in America - here it sets & we can't go get it because of the environmentalists whackos!!!!
I feel your pain re: gas prices!! The gas prices here are ~$4.30-4.50 for unleaded, but, I am very lucky in that I walk to work so I only have to drive occasionally. However, as you noted, the price of everything else is jumping up in response. In addition to groceries, I've noticed that air travel is much more expensive. I hope this doesn't become prohibitive for you guys to travel back to Omaha from time to time...
Hope all is well otherwise!
Prayin' for you,
Jen
I am glad to hear from you. I have sent your email to our prayer warriors to pray that God will fill your tank and keep it full.
Our fuel is high here $4.03 yesterday. We have a small car too gets 35mpg last we checked anyway we keep it tuned up and in good working shape Frankie (my husband)does that all himself. I make sure I have alot to do when we go anywhere.
We're up to $3.89 or so.
I, too, switched to a laser printer. It is much better than driving to the office supply store once per month!
Hello to our dear Mike and Sue,
I will put your information in the prayer list this week, thank you
for sharing, and for your frequent notes.
We really appreciated your tactfulness with your supporters on the increased cost of living issue!
Our fuel here is nearing $4 a gallon and it is putting the squeeze on everything. I can't imagine double that. Our motorcycle will get much more use with these prices. Just have to take care of the flat first. :)
I am tempted to sell the van for a scooter.
God Bless!
Cathy
BTW I love the way you put the prayer right in your email. It is so nice to know that I am praying just as you ask. My prayer does not end there but it's a great start.
Our gas prices here in Augusta, GA are ranging from $3.90 to $4.10 a gallon and yes, our food prices have gone up too. Our milk is anywhere from $3.68 to $4.89 a gallon. I can't think of any other suggestions to lower your ministry expenses than you already are, except if you eat out on a regular basis, you may be able to cut back there. Thank you for sharing. I pray for you daily. -Elsie
In the upstate NY area, regular gas is $4.15-$4.30/gal. with hi-test being 20-40 cents more. However, Diesel is as much as a dollar more expensive than regular.
May the Lord bless you and your ministry.
Fuel here has been $4. 24 a gallon. We are grateful that we can pay it.
Knowing GOD cares for all our needs,
Charlotte
We pay $4.19 approx in Lansing MI (goes up and down sometimes $3.98 and then up to $4 and some change. Times are hard. Prices of food are going up - everything is going up. I don't know how to have you save money in expenses as I don't know how much things cost there. We are taking a Dave Ramsey class this September though, so we can learn.
Dear Mike and Sue, our gas prices go up and down daily but right now is hovering around $4.00 a gallon; and yes, I feel blessed that we can still afford to buy gas and go the places we need to go. So many people in America work a long distance from where they live, and if prices continue to rise, they will be paying more to get to work than their take-home pay. It is a difficult situation. You have it worse there and I wish I knew something magical to tell you to keep cost down, but sounds like you are doing all you can to do so right now. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you and so many others struggle to adapt to these changes in our world. take care, barbara
I am so thankful for your Websites. It is so cool to see how extensive is your ministry. And thank you for the prayer pages, especially I am thankful
for the Muslim prayer. I have had a hard time lately remembering that it is not about me, but about God and His desire that none should perish. I am memorizing (though that is hard for me now) that ISLAM means "I Sincerely Love All Muslims". Thanks for the heart and attitude adjustment.
Dear Lord, thank you so much for the ministries of the Farho family, Christ Community Church, Etc..
In Christ Jesus' Name. Amen
Always so glad to get your newsy e-mails and requests for prayer. We pray for you.
Our gas is now $3.92 but it bounces around a lot. My goodness, I can't believe your gas went up that much overnight. There would be a big outcry in the U.S. if that happened here. We do enough complaining with it being as much as it is. Course, our groceries are going up at a rapid rate too so know gas expense is affecting a lot of people.
Our gas prices are raising sevral times per week, but not like your increase. Prices here this week range from $4.05 per gallon to $4.30. They are predicting $5.00 by the end of the summer. Diesel prices are even higher, ranging form $4.50 to over $5.00 per gallon in some parts of the States. Airlines are among the industries being hit the hardest. They are cutting flights amd laying of hundreds of employees, depending on the size of the airline. They can't raise their ticket prices to high or people will just quit flying. It's a catch 22 for them.
I reread your message, and you had asked what the price of gas is here. Right now, it is just under $4.00, but expected to go higher. We need to pray for our gov't to begin using the sources in the U.S. Something must be done, it is affecting so many areas of industry. God Bless.
Audrey
In North Carolina we are paying $3.98 for unleaded and diesel is in the $4.60s.
That is unbelievable, i don't know where the prices are going to stop. If they jumped that much overnight here we would probably have looting and stealing going on. There might be a revolution in the USA. God bless you, Tim & Kim
We are paying between $3.95 and $3.98 for gasoline. So far we haven't had to
pay $4.00. But almost every week I pay a higher price for groceries. We have a
small garden and I usually fill up my freezer, which will be a big help. We praise God for 4 or 5 days in a row of rain. We have had an extremely dry and hot late Spring and Summer.
God bless and provide for all your needs is our prayer for you, with budget cuts and rising prices I know it is a challenge. Our Love, Wade & Myrtie
WOW! The cost of fuel there is horrendous. We're feeling the increase in groceries here too, but I'm sure not as much as you are.
Are you doing okay financially? We will try and give thought as to how to help you defray your expenses. Give us some ideas of what all you use.
Our love to you all,
Marg
Wow! I can't believe an overnight raise of that much; it makes the $3.81 per gallon that I just paid in Omaha today look good. I really can't think of a way for you to save as it is so important for you to minister face to face.
Dear Ones,
I was saddened to hear the news of the increase in fuel. It sounds like you have figured out ways to cut costs elsewhere. Our fuel is still 4.60 for diesel and 3.85 for regular gasoline in Lincoln. I daresay, your costs before the rise were close to ours!!!!
I sometimes think we truly are in the last times.
May God bless your ministry and thank you for being so faithful in writing and keeping us informed.
In Christ's care,
Linda
Sorry to hear that the fuel cost have jumped that much in a day. I guess we have nothing to complain about. Ours is only going up a few cents each day. It is up to $4.19 as of Friday. Have not been by the gas station since then. Avoid that place as much as possible. Thank you so much for the updates. Praying for your ministry.
Hello Farho's,
First of all, I love receiving letters from you. I pray for you and your work and sincerely appreciate that you're willing to share with believers through all your resources, my e-mail included!
I think, or rather, I know- that in America we take the price of fuel for granted. We complain and we don't seek solutions, and most unfortunately, we forget that we have it pretty good. I know you're not asking for sympathy, but my heart is sad at the state of the world when you cannot even afford to visit the places that God would have you bless because of the cost for fuel.
If visits are necessary, is there a way that you could simultaneously web cast? The cost of webcams has gone down dramatically in the US, in my mothers church in South Carolina has grown so rapidly that the pastor was preaching 9 times a week, non-holidays. They are now going to cut back to his preaching three times a week, but by simulcast to three separate locations, so the Word can continue to spread.
I don't know if they have a partnership with an electronics company, but I know that they are working on a tight budget as well, and might be able to offer some kind of information or help. Their name is Seacoast Church, based in Mount Pleasant, SC, USA. Here is the site:
http://www.seacoast.org/
I pray that your blessed and protected. Thanks for all of your immeasurable work!
Caroline
Here in the Balkans we're paying about $7.90 a gallon now. It's already impacted other prices as well, which means I'm passing by many things on the shelf that I wouldn't have thought twice of before. To save our field budget money I've also decided to walk to work for a while too, which can save between $43-$86 a month. It seems like hard times world-wide right now, but we can trust Him. :) Hang in there and we're standing with you in prayer.
