Taxis on strike in Abidjan

This photo by Abidjan.net pretty much sums up the problem. No taxis, means no way for most of the population of this city of nearly 6 million to get to work. The taxi drivers are on strike because they can't afford to buy fuel at the rates they are authorized to charge. The drivers set up road blocks to stop people from taking other forms of transportation. We were warned that there could be trouble, so we've stayed here in our neighborhood.

Heavenly Father, help the people in Abidjan to find ways to make ends meet during these extremely inflationary days. Give the government authorities wisdom as they try to calm down the situation.

It was great hearing John tell about his experiences in Iraq and Ivory Coast at the Super Adult meeting today. He gave a really good presentation. It sounds like the people where you are really love you. That is wonderful.

Gas has gone as high as $3.99 here. I'm thankful I do not have to drive everyday but I feel for those who need to get to work.

You are in my prayers. I pray for you most every day.
Take care and God bless you all, Love, Eleanor

Hi Mike & Sue,
The times are getting hard and they will get even harder. We hope you are safe and that you are able to shop in your neighborhood. Diesel in White Sulphur Springs is $4.59 a gallon, to fill our tank it takes about $125.00. Needless to say we are not traveling to much this summer. The truck is loaded down with many people, looks like Cozumel, Mexico when I went there. Mopeds with 4-5 family members hanging off of it.

Can you ride your motorcycle very much or do you walk to the store and to see your neighbors? Are you still keeping in touch by phone? How is the man who sent his family off to Lebanon and had the big tax debt to pay? How is the ringing in your ears?

Take care and God Bless you all, Tim & Kim

Thanks for your love and prayers Tim & Kim.

> Can you ride your motorcycle very much or do you walk to the store and to see your neighbors?

I can't ride the motorcycle too much, because it is still raining about everyday.

>Are you still keeping in touch by phone?

Yes, our phones work good for talking to people around town. Phone calls are one of the few things to cost less here. There are so many phone companies that they keep pushing the prices down.

>How is the man who sent his family off to Lebanon and had the big tax debt to pay?

He is having a great vacation with his family in Lebanon. He might be there for up to two months with them. He will have to pay his taxes when he gets back.

>How is the ringing in your ears?

I wish I could say it is better, but it is still very annoying. Some days it is really loud, like right now. I'm learning to ignore it most of the time.

Yes, it doesn't seem like it's very safe to be on the streets. Be careful & I'll be praying for your safety.
