The curse of Malaria

Every 30 seconds a child under 5 dies of Malaria in Africa. Malaria in Cote d'Ivoire is increasingly caused by the chloroquine-resistant Malaria parasite. It kills 63,000 children under the age of 5 a year here. That's more than 7 small children every hour in Cote d'Ivoire. Adults are also killed by Malaria.

We're grateful for your prayers for Joshua. He is doing very well. Please pray for Joshua's African French language tutor, Gerard. He is sick now with Malaria. When we visited the maternity section of the main Ivorian hospital in Abidjan last May, the doctors thanked God for President Bush. They said many lives have been saved here because of the USA gift of free vaccines and medications for pregnant women and children under 5 years old.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being our Healer. Thank You for healing Joshua's Malaria and John's shoulder. Please heal Gerard and strengthen all three of them.

Hey, brother!

When can we come and make a visit to CI? It is high time that we make a mission there. Please pray for the healing of my spine and neck that the Lord will allow for me to travel there. I heard a great radio message last evening regarding the sin of worry. We should always pray rather than worry, he said! I thought of you and your strong messages to pray down through the years. You are certainly one of God's great prayer warriors , Mike and the Lord stays in your heart!

I know that Sara is also keen on coming with me this mission. Working with you has been one of the great blessings in my life and mission history. We thank the Lord Jesus for his healing power.

I thank the Lord for you, brother

Yours in Christ
Gerald

Dear Mike and Sue,
We're so pleased to hear that Josh is getting better. It's hard
sometimes to see the money that gets poured into such unimportant things - salaries for sports people and movie stars for starters - when, for a fraction of that, lives can be saved. God knows our world and our hearts and we are so thankful when governments and others see needs and work to help where possible. We continue to pray for you and the kingdom work you are involved in.
Love
Jenny

There is not yet a vaccine for Malaria. The vaccines the USA provides are the same we give our kids in the USA, MMR and tetanus.

I will be asking the Lord to provide the finances to help. I don't know if I would be able to but I'm open. It's such a small amount of money to save the life of a child...Bless you.

Hie Mike,

Its good to hear that Joshua is doing well. Am still praying for total healing and strength. His teacher is also in my prayers.

Am a Kenyan living in South Africa and l sure know the the malaria tragedy. It also kills so many people in Kenya and l worry for my children everytime we go home. God is good they do not get it but l used all kinds of precautionary measures ie we go to the travellers clinic and get tablets that we start taking three weeks before we go and three weeks after we come back.

Keep well and be blessed.

Hi Mike and Sue

Wow, what staggering statistics.  That is just unreal.  I am so glad that we know that God has not lost control of the situation.  I know Joshua will continue to do better, and I will begin praying for Gerard, and all of the people over there especially those being hit hardest by this terrible disease.  It is some consolation to know that everything that has a name will one day bow down to King Jesus, even malaria.

God bless you as you continue in His service.
Love,
Paula

God bless all of you!  Thank God, Joshua is better! I will tell our churches the good news and ask them to pray for Gerard. As soon as you sent the e-mail I sent one to our churches asking them to pray for your son.

Take care and we will continue praying.

In His Hands,
Milly, PR

Sorry for the bout of malaria for Joshua and thankful he's healthy once again.

I'm wondering how you got the statistics for malaria in Cote d'Ivoire.  Is there a web site perhaps that lists by country?  I'd love to know more about malaria in Rwanda (land of a thousand hills) and compare it to other countries.

You're not forgotten.  Blessings on your day.

Thanks,  Debby

We got our statistics from a group providing mosquito nets for children under 5 yrs old. They provide 5,000 net per year.

I'm so glad Joshua is feeling better.  Thanks also for the encouraging words about Pres. Bush.  We hear so  much negative here which is so sad.

Hi Mike

Joshua is your son?  Is it the Joshua that is on your blog in the many pictures?  I will be keeping him in our prayers.  Thank you

Erin

Yes, Erin, Joshua is our 10 year old son. He's in many photos at our website.
