Ramadan 22 Aug- 20 Sept

Muslims fast from food and water for 30 days, from sunrise until sunset. They fast as an act of faith and worship towards Allah, to suppress sinful desires and increase religious piety. Ramadan in 2009 (or the Islamic year of 1430) is August 22 - September 20. Learn more at http://islam.farho.net

30-days.net distributes free daily e-mail updates for the 30 days of Ramadan. Please sign up for these updates from their "30-Days of Prayer for the Muslim World" booklet.

Heavenly Father, motivate Christians around the world to love Muslims through prayer. Help us to see them as You see them. Give them dreams and visions of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Farho Farewell on Sunday

Our four months in USA are almost over. This weekend will be our last Sunday in Omaha. It would be a great joy to give you a hug goodbye. If you can be in Omaha on Sunday May 17 at 6pm, you are warmly invited to our farewell reception.

We hope to see you then! Since many of our prayer partners are many miles, states and even countries away, we send you big hug right now! :-)

Heavenly Father, we trust You to bring many of Mike and Sue's friends and partners out to say goodbye for another two years. Bless each partner, near and far, as they make the Farho's ministry possible in North Africa.

Pray for healing!

Downtown Abidjan
Urgent request from our Lebanese believers in Cote d'Ivoire: Please pray for our Lebanese friend, Pierre. He was evacuated from Abidjan. He is very ill in Marseilles, France. He has only one kidney. It seems that his liver and/or kidney is shutting down.

Heavenly Father, we ask you to touch and heal Pierre's body. Give his doctors wisdom. Comfort his wife and extended family during these difficult days.

We wish you a Joyful Christmas!

As we considered taking a photo of our family to send you, we decided that it wasn't a good idea. Sue is the only one wearing a shirt! As many of our partners are shivering with record cold temps, we are sweating in the typical tropical heat of Abidjan. We've had daily rain and RealFeel(R) temps over 105°F, with the humidity dripping at about 90%. Do you feel warmer yet?

You warm our hearts as we thank our Heavenly Father for you. Your prayers are the best gift we receive each day. May our Father's love warm your hearts, even in the frigid areas of His creation. May your Christmas be filled with His abounding joy!

With love and gratitude,
Mike, Sue, John, and Joshua Farho

Prayer is a powerful ministry

Mike FarhoWith Canadian Thanksgiving and USA Columbus Day yesterday, we're thinking about the things for which we are grateful. Right on the top of our list is your ministry, as one of our prayer partners. Your ministry of prayer is the power behind our service here in Abidjan. We can't do anything without your partnership! Today, we dedicate this update to you and your powerful ministry of prayer.

Heavenly Father, thank You for each prayer partner lifting up Mike and Sue. Bless each one and give them the faith, healing, encouragement, joy and the finances they need for each day.

What is Ramadan?

Source: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fotos_dos_ornelas/
Ramadan in 2008 (or the Islamic year of 1429) is September 1-30. Dates may vary according to the sighting of the moon. It is the third pillar of Islam, when Muslims around the world celebrate the holiest month of their year. During Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Muslims from all continents unite in a period of sunrise to sunset fasting and spiritual reflection. Our friends tell us that one of the most important aspects of Ramadan for them is an increase in commitment to their families.

Heavenly Father, during this holy time for Muslims give them dreams and visions of our Savior Jesus Christ. As they discipline themselves and resist temptation, open their hearts to their need for the Savior.

Prayer for 08-08-08 at 08:08am

Thought I would celebrate this awesome date with a special prayer for you, posted on 08/08/08 at 08:08 am. That makes this an 080808 0808 GMT prayer!

Heavenly Father, we thank You for giving us a new day to know You and love You. We thank You for giving us the fruit of Your Holy Spirit to enable us to obey You. We thank You for Your patience with us each day and year You've given us. Empower us anew to be Your faithful servants on this planet we call home. Enlighten us as we reflect Your glory. Cause Your love to overflow from us to all our neighbors and every nation of the world.

We pray all these things in the name of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who died to make our pardon possible. Amen

Send us your questions advice, comments or prayer requests!
